For those of you keeping score at home, you've probably noticed that I've cut back tremendously on my blog posts since the beginning of summer. I took a much-needed break to step back from photography and refocus (no pun intended) on what is really important in my life: family. Anyone who knows me knows that photography is a great passion of mine, and while I love pursuing my passion and taking pictures of other people's children and families, the reality is that the time I have spent behind the camera and with your family, as much I've enjoyed it, has been time that was unfairly taken away from my own family. I never really set out to turn this whole thing into a career, it just kind of fell in my lap. One day it was a hobby, the next I was booking clients 6 months in advance and working 60+ hours a week. Needless to say, moderation has never been my strong suit. Long story short, this summer of traveling with my family has made me realize I need to continue this break from professional photography and give time to my children (while they are still young enough to want to spend time with me!) If I had to put a time line on all of this, I would say for the next 6 months I will not be booking any new sessions, with the exception of a HANDFUL of weekday baby sessions. Sidenote: if you are more than 4 months pregnant and think you might be interested in a newborn session, please contact me so I can reserve a spot for you on my calendar.
I've been getting several emails lately asking about holiday sessions. Obviously, I won't be doing any this year. I am sorry to inconvenience any of you. If you would like me to refer you to another photographer, I would be more than happy to do so. There are some extremely talented photographers in and around the Houston area. I'd love to point you in their direction.
Thank you for understanding my decision. Hopefully you moms and dads out there can appreciate where I'm coming from. Lastly, here are the 3 most important little people in my life and the ones who were the driving forces that pointed me toward photography to begin with. These were taken on our last family vacation of the summer in Aspen, Colorado.
This next one is an outtake. Mainly for the people that have asked me "How do you get your kids to listen to you and pose so perfectly when you shoot them?" Obviously, it takes about a hundred shots like the one below to get an acceptable one. And then sometimes it still doesn't work. If you are wondering, I did get some great shots from the setup below, but they are in the running for our holiday card this year, so I better hold off on sharing those.
